Buying a safe? Top tips to help you decide better!

If you’re seeking to buy a safe, there are a few things to think about, and with so many alternatives available, deciding which one is best for you might be difficult. Check out our blog to learn about the many types of safes and what to look for when buying one!

What is the purpose?

First and foremost, think about what you want to keep safe in your safe, since this will influence the size of safe you need to purchase. Is it something tiny, such as cash and documents, or something more substantial, such as jewellery, or do you need to store larger technological equipment?

Protection from what?

Burglary protection

There are a few different safe choices on the market if you want to protect your important belongings from being stolen if you are burgled. Look for the safe’s insurance rating, which is based on a variety of characteristics such as the safe’s movement resistance, the thickness and strength of the walls and door, the security and complexity of the lock and bolt mechanisms, and the overall quality. The safer the safe is, the higher the insurance rating.

The insurance rating is only valid if the safe has been properly installed, so choose a safe that is 30 percent larger than your needs to ensure your belongings are protected in the event of a disaster.

Fire protection

Standard, medium, high, and maximum are the four distinct ratings for fire protection safes, which are decided by the time they are tested (30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes plus). The internal temperature of a fire protection safe is measured over time when exposed to high temperatures, an explosion test is performed to ensure the safe will not explode when exposed to sudden extreme temperatures, and a fire drop test is performed to ensure it can withstand falling through a burning building.

Operation types

Key and lock safe – A key lock safe is a tried and true way to keep your safe secure. However, there is a chance that the keys may be misplaced or that a thief could get entry to the safe using the key.

Keypad lock – A PIN code is used in a keypad safe, and it can be changed as often as you want. This type of safe is common in hotel rooms, where it will be used by a large number of people throughout the year.

Fingerprint type – When a fingerprint safe detects a pre-scanned fingerprint, it will open. There are no keys to misplace and no pin codes to forget, but these safes are more costly.

Dial Combination type – These are the types of safes that you see in movies when the thief listens for ticks to unlock the code. These safes, on the other hand, are a little more difficult to use.

Dual lock type – The safe may be opened with two locks or a keypad and key, allowing two individuals to use it.

Safe positioning

Floor safes – If you want to keep your valuables in a hidden, secure location, floor safes are ideal. A rug or furniture can readily conceal them.

Wall mounted – Wall mounted safes, like floor safes, provide additional security by being readily hidden from view and difficult to remove.

Free standing – Freestanding safes are the most affordable option in terms of upfront cost, and there are no further installation costs. These are, of course, less secure than their counterparts because they are more difficult to conceal and can be picked up and carried away.
